The weekend trip is designed to combine 4wd instruction, with practical driving experience, as well as visiting areas of spectacular views and those of natural interest, such as rock strata containing fossils.
This course is most suited for families and individuals in 4WD wagon-type vehicles, such as: Patrols, Surfs, Pajeros, and Vitaras etc.
A bush camp-out is part of the trip for those who enjoy basic bush camping. Cooking is over an open fire, there is a long-drop toilet, and natural spring water. Much of the 4WD theory can be discussed sitting around the camp fire with a relaxing drink in hand.
Children welcome.
This is not intended to be a vehicle-breaking trip, and common sense will avoid damage, although 4WDriving being as it is, some scratches are possible.
All vehicles should:
• Be of a safe roadworthy condition
• Have properly fitted front and rear tow hooks
• Carry a spade or shovel as a minimum of equipment.
The weekend starts with a short theory and video session, making sure drivers are familiar with all the features of their vehicles, and then travels to a special off-road training course, for 2 hours of individual driver instruction. A manual is provided for each participating vehicle.
Then, off around the station on a combination of tracks, ranging from easy to very challenging. Along the way, we will drive through areas, which may require the use of recovery techniques, which will be fully explained as part of the course.
Due to the nature of the terrain, the trip may have to be modified at short notice, to allow for sudden changes in the weather.
What Else Should I Know? Please bring:
• Food: Two lunches, dinner and breakfast ingredients. Try to limit bottles, as all rubbish must be removed in rubbish bags by each vehicle.
• Drinks
• Camping gear: Tent, sleeping bags, camp chairs
• Eating and drinking utensils, detergent scrubbing tool and tea towels
• Empty plastic bags for rubbish removal.
No dogs please
NOTE: Low range 4WD will need to be engaged the whole time on the station.
